1992
The story of Metek starts in the year 1992, when its founder and current manager Erko Karo finished his studies in steel construction at Nummela Vocational School in Finland. He laid the cornerstone to Metek in 1995, when a roof repairs company called Plekitööde Keskus OÜ was started in Otepää.
2001
In 2001 the first production premises were rented in Tallinn, sheet metal guillotine and a metal bending machine was bought, which together allowed to offer own production for customers. The roof repairs company began to transform into a metal façade building business. In 2003 the first steel cassette façade was built in Käpylä, Finland, which can be regarded as the first object completed directly for head contractor, one of the market leaders YIT.
2005
As the result of increasing demand, Metek started its own “production village” at Tabasalu in 2005. In 2009 a perforating machine was added to machinery. Luxurious perforated aluminium solutions were particularly well received by the Finnish market.
The year 2009 was an important landmark in the company’s history: this was the year of name and symbol change. Plekitööde Keskus OÜ changed into Metek OÜ. Additionally, Erko Karo was chosen among the five finalists of the Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.
2010
In 2010 Metek’s own design department was launched, which allowed to create increasingly complicated solutions. The same year, Metek started to manufacture aluminium glass facades, windows and doors and in 2011 light-weight thermoprofile panels. Thermoprofile panels help gradually to decrease the proportion of on-site insulation works, thus improving both the speed and quality of construction. The first thermoprofile panels for facade insulation were installed to Safiiri Office Building in Espoo, a part of Greater Helsinki in 2012.
In 2012 Erko Karo was awarded a medal of merit and the title of The Builder of the Year 2011 by the Union of Estonian Architects. The title was given for skillful building of custom-designed metal facades, for flexibility, for attitude that respects the architect’s opinions and needs, for creative cooperation and maximum contribution to the result.
Over the years Metek has developed into a multifunctional company and has become an important partner to the following head contractors in Estonia and Finland: Merko, YIT, NCC and SRV. An average of 80% of produce is exported and mainly to Finland.
